CoolSculpting vs UltraShape: What’s the Difference?

consultationSometimes it doesn’t matter how hard you exercise or how healthy you eat. Sometimes fat is just plain stubborn and it doesn’t budge no matter how much you work to get rid of it. This is what we call diet and exercise resistant fat, the type of stubborn fat that is usually found in one specific zone of the body and only grows with time, never reducing. This type of fat often has more to do with genetics and body type than exercise regime. The good news is there are noninvasive, nonsurgical treatments that allow you to defy genetics and carve out the body you desire. In this article we’ll compare two of these technologies, CoolSculpting and UltraShape. Both of these methods allow you to take control and reshape your body without the use of surgery. Fat reduction has never looked better or been easier than it’s been in the past decade. These methods have no downtime, no needles, no bruising, and little to no pain. Let’s explore them more now.

Basics of CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting was approved by the FDA in 2010 as a noninvasive fat blasting technology. Since then it has earned its spot as the top, most trusted nonsurgical, noninvasive method for getting rid of fat worldwide. CoolSculpting has a proven track record for reducing diet and exercise resistant fat on people that are generally in good health. It works by isolating and freezing fat cells at a low temperature in a process known as cryolipolysis. After the subcutaneous fat cells are destroyed they are excreted from the body naturally, over time in a process called apoptosis. Because fat freezes at a lower temperature than other parts of the body, this process doesn’t harm the surrounding skin or tissue – it just kills fat, permanently. Once those fat cells are destroyed they’re gone forever.

Basics of UltraShape

UltraShape was approved by the FDA in 2014 as a body contouring technique that uses ultrasound energy to blast subcutaneous fat. There are two kinds of UltraShape: UltraShape and UltraShape Power. UltraShape Power is the more upgraded service. It includes the use of a better device with a faster and more efficient design. UltraShape Power was approved two years after UltraShape in 2016. For the best results these treatments are generally done in three sessions that are held about two weeks apart. Altogether the process takes about six weeks and results are seen shortly after that.

CoolSculpting vs UltraShape: How does it work?

CoolSculpting works by choosing a targeted zone of fat and then taking an applicator and blasting that fat with cool temperatures. Once the fat cells are frozen they die off and then get released from the body as waste naturally over time.

UltraShape isolates stubborn fat cells and then blasts them with ultrasound technology. Because the ultrasound energy is focused, it doesn’t harm any of the other cells, nerves, blood vessels or tissues in the body, it only penetrates the skin to get to the fat. It does this with a special device that administers waves of varying pressure that create vapor cavities inside the fat deposits. This pressure causes the fat cells to rupture, thereby killing them.

Fat reduction surgeries, like liposuction suck fat out using an instrument called cannula. The fat comes out as a yellowish blubber and it later gets discarded by the hospital. With noninvasive procedures the fat doesn’t come out this way. With CoolSculpting the fat comes out naturally over the course of a few weeks or months. It doesn’t look any specific way as it comes out, it’s just naturally excreted. With UltraShape, the excretion method is similar to CoolSculpting as the fat cells are processed out in the form of triglycerides, which are naturally processed by the liver and then excreted.  Triglycerides are a type of fat that’s found in your blood and stored in your fat cells.

Am I a candidate for CoolSculpting or UltraTherapy?

coolsulpting treatmentThese treatments are similar in that the ideal candidate should be healthy overall and have specific pockets of diet and exercise resistant fat that they want to get rid of. When trying to figure out if you’re a good candidate it’s important to factor in whether the treatment will be able to address your specific needs. Because both of these treatments are considered noninvasive, a good candidate would be someone that wants to permanently blast fat but doesn’t want the downtime or risks associated with surgery. Neither treatment is meant as a solution for weightloss, instead a candidate should use these treatments as a way to jumpstart healthy eating and exercise rituals. For candidates who have continuously worked to reduce diet and exercise resistant fat, these noninvasive treatments are akin to putting in the last piece of the puzzle. For many people, having that final piece, the body of your dreams, provides a new lease on life. It provides positivity and the idea that body goals can be accomplished. This is important because after years of not being able to reduce fat despite working hard at it, finally the end result is a sleek and sculpted physique.

CoolSculpting vs UltraShape: Overall

Both of these methods are great ways to get rid of stubborn fat. They’re both noninvasive and nonsurgical, meaning they do not have any of the risks associated with surgery. Also, there is no downtime associated with these treatments. There’s no needles, no anesthesia and no visits to the hospital for preoperative blood work. CoolSculpting and UltraShape are relatively easy going treatments when compared to liposuction for this reason. That said, these treatments deliver the same result as liposuction, they just take a little bit more time to do it. Liposuction sucks out fat right then and there, CoolSculpting and UltraShape kill fat cells and the body naturally gets rid of the cells over a period of time. Overall these are excellent fat removal methods, but we think CoolSculpting is better
