CoolSculpting and Skin Elasticity

Peakbody CoolSculptingOne of the most common questions we get at PeakBody is “Am I going to get saggy skin after my CoolSculpting treatment?” Of course this is something you SHOULD be asking. You’re doing the right thing, working on yourself, doing what you can to meet your body goals – you don’t need saggy skin to be the prize at the end of the journey, right? But the conversation goes beyond just CoolSculpting and sag. Skin elasticity is something many of us are concerned with, both men and women. When it comes to weight loss, there are tons of before & after photos on the internet that show excess, sagging skin and people wonder, “is that going to happen to me too?” We want visible fat reduction, but does that have to mean excess skin?

CoolSculpting Near MeLet’s talk about that saggy skin

A little over a decade ago, liposuction was the only way to get rid of diet and exercise resistant fat. That meant surgery, preoperative blood work and a hefty downtime on the downside. It also meant that saggy skin was a possible side effect. That’s because, with liposuction, the fat is sucked out through a cannula, right then and right there. This sudden reduction in fat is what causes saggy skin. So, more than a decade ago, when people wanted to remove stubborn bulges, this was their only option – and sagging skin was a possible side effect.

Then, CoolSculpting came along and changed the game forever, when two Harvard University scientists discovered that fat freezes at a different temperature than other parts of the body. They realized that that meant they could target stubborn fat pockets and use controlled cooling to freeze unwanted fat.

But there’s more. CoolSculpting works differently than surgical options. Why? Fat is excreted from the body naturally, over a period of time, rather than all at once. This means that because CoolSculpting processes fat out over time, it doesn’t stretch and retract skin the way liposuction does.

On the other hand, liposuction is surgery that requires cutting into the skin, breaking up stubborn fat, and suctioning it out through a tube. Afterwards, the body is more svelte and contoured BUT the skin goes through a more aggressive process. With liposuction, fat removal is quick; therefore, the skin doesn’t have enough time to bounce back naturally.

Now, let’s compare that to CoolSculpting. Fat isn’t manually broken up and sucked out during this process. Instead, it’s hit with controlled cooling on the outside of the body. The applicator delivers cold temperatures to a targeted fat zone. None of the other skin or tissues are harmed in the process. The skin isn’t cut into or torn apart. Everything happens superficially. It’s considered to be a calm and comfortable procedure. Over a period of time, the body naturally expells the fat that was killed during the session. It can take up to three months to see full results. This process is slow and steady. It doesn’t happen over night.

Peakbody CoolSculpting Westchester NJNo, CoolSculpting DOES NOT cause sagging skin!

With CoolSculpting, you don’t see immediate results. But, this is actually a good thing. CoolSculpting’s slower process allows the body to naturally adapt. Fat cells are flushed out of the body over a period of time, and skin isn’t harmed because fat doesn’t leave overnight. With CoolSculpting, the skin has ample time to recover. Skin is an elastic organ. It has the time to retract and expand more ideally when weight loss is gradual. The same thing for weight gain. Because CoolSculpting isn’t instantaneous, it reduces the possibility of sagging skin.

It’s important to note that CoolSculpting is not a weight loss treatment. CoolSculpting is a fat loss treatment and a body contouring treatment. CoolSculpting removes pockets of fat. If you have fat that doesn’t respond to diet and exercise, CoolSculpting may work for you. If you need to lose an excessive amount of weight, CoolSculpting may not be your ideal solution. That’s because “ideal” clients are those that have pockets of pinchable fat and are in good health.  It’s especially ideal for those that are close to their target weight.

CoolSculpting is conducive to Skin Elasticity because it’s gradual!
